Journey To Wellness Signature Course Class #3 D.A.S.H. For Your Heart’s Sake
In our Journey to Wellness Signature Course, we continue with Class #3, D.A.S.H. For Your Heart’s Sake. This is Part #1 of the two-part Blood Pressure Management Section. This class starts with education on signs and symptoms of heart attack, stroke, and hypertension including how to recognize a stroke. We discuss lifestyle change to decrease risk and/or manage these disease states.
We believe the primary step to control blood pressure is with the D.A.S.H. Diet from the American Heart Association, which focuses on whole grains, fruits and vegetables. We share numerous tips for increasing fruits and vegetables daily.
Then attention moves to an explanation on sodium which is required to sustain life. But a fraction of our usual intake is all that is necessary. You will learn about all the sneaky places sodium hides in our food supply.
We take it a step further to teach about the four tastes, sweet, salty, sour, and bitter, and how to tame our taste for salt. We include a short discussion on portion sizes and food labels to better understand sodium.
No class would be complete without the change process using journalling to create new habits. You will walk away with more knowledge of taking control of heart disease and decreasing risk for long-term complications.
